The Mountain Turkey
In my woods, there is hidden A story to unfold “The Tale of the Mountain Turkey” With feathers of brown and gold There are whispers of his beauty And how he was the farmer’s prize Until the turkey had broken free From the farmer’s saddened cries. He had run through the barnyard Thus, across the fence he flew. Landing in a bucket of tar How the farmer’s face turned blue. The Mountain Turkey flew the coop He was no ones dinner plate Singing from his special stoop “It is time for me to escape” In the barn, he found some paint The story now unfolds “I’m not a Mountain turkey, I ain’t." Now wearing colors of brown and gold So in the mountains of Carolina If you should happen to see The Mountain Turkey strutting He’ll be singing “Lord I am free.”
