watching

old man creased face
thoughts of times 40 years back
breathing here, living there

kids laughing and giggling
their drinks are fruity and sweet
whipped cream drips

crossing guard sips
brown hair hides strands of gray
recuperating from the kids

laptop guy surfing
coffee cold and barely touched
ear piece and cell close

chi latte to go
perfumed woman smiling
too cute and happy

dress shirts and laptops
professionals in a meeting
energy drinks

man sitting outside
trying to catch someone's eye
same coffee same spot

busta the pit bull
walking its owner to the shop
lean muscular, massive head

big eyes peering
pink feet poking out of a stroller
soundless laughter

on a smoke break
twenty-something unshaven
rubbernecking every female

two cent opinions
coffee house philosophy
five dollar coffee

Author's Notes:

people make their way into the coffee house

You can tell a lot about people at a glance. We tend to have our own mental filing cabinet and sort them accordingly.

This is amazing! Your talent shines! Excellent penning! =))

Busta the Pit Bull - caught me. So much in a small space. Exceptionally visual BIG CITY, rush rush rush. No tree. No grass. No flower. But ages of steps walked to that coffee shop. Very well done. I like this style. Your short crisp lines make these visuals work very well. A pleasure to read. ~Pam

I've done this before..this is neat..where I live now...there's nothing like this to watch..very quiet atmosphere here..but I have been in times where I just sit and watch..I find out you learn more that way...great write!!

Sorry for the coffee shop reference...I was looking at the titles before reading...and it feels just like that...in a coffee shop, or on a park bench, just outside the coffee shop perhaps :)

:) I like the way you ended this.

This is so very unique...in its clips...
like flicking through the stations on a tv....
The form is very much like our present day life...add society we have become.
But this works very well in a poem, as art.

I love pioneering of this sort.
Well presented afternoon at the coffee shop indeed~

Best wishes,
Pamela
