Stormy Day
The sun was shinning,  a beautiful day
My flowers in the garden such a wonderful display
Suddenly,  the birds acting strange as they fly
Dark clouds,  overtaking the sky

A roll of thunder is heard from afar
Lightening strikes looking pretty bizarre
The rains comes in so heavy,  could not see
Winds so strong it bends the trees

Howling I hear as I cover my head
The storm in full force something I dread
The wind is whipping, thunder is overtaking
Lightening hitting hard, damage it is making

Sounds like a train is going by
Oh dear Lord I just want to cry
The winds become louder, stronger,  something its breaking
I can feel myself  tremble, the house is now shaking

I pull myself together,  I look outside
A horrifying scene, now electricity is fried
Sitting in the dark, alone, scared out of my wits
Right in front of the porch,  lightening strikes, it hits

I run to the closet praying as fast as I can
No relieve in sight, louder thunder began
Shivering to my toes, fearful I may die
Praying to God saying my goodbyes

Finally there comes the relief
As the winds die down, the rain is brief
I come from the closet and look out the door
Sun starts to shine just like before

Lightening now begins to cease
Sun is warming, I now feel peace
Some people love to watch the storm at play
I'll hide in the closet,  ride out the Stormy Day!!!

This was a great poem very descriptive. It  takes you on the journey as if you were in the storm as well!

I adore storms...but I am lucky in that we do not have tornadoes in Scotland.

That level of storm is not so nice.

We all have fears...mine are worms or anything that resembles them. My fear of worms is connected to a childhood experience that was quite tramatic. You remind me of my dog who was left out as a puppy in a terrible storm...she was so tramatized that night that she has never been the same since. Storms are her biggest fear...she shakes and hides. We lock her in the bathroom where she seems to feel a sense of safety. :o)

I almost didn't read this because of the title...I am sick of rain!!!! (It has been raining here for 10 days or more.) So, glad I did though. Nice imagery and I like how the poem goes full circle.

Enjoyed it.

The description of the whole stormy situation is absolutely” WOW" as  while I was reading your poem I sort of felt little fear  too for a second as the situation appears so real . A poem which can give feeling of fear isn't easy to write.

Storms... become different things for us all.. Nature is a part of life... The snarling verbal storm with tears that fall..loud noises from the sky and fire bolts that burn the mind and heart.. It is all about life!! Your awesome  lady... hugs ~ She Whispers

everyone reacts differently to different experiences
you seem to embrace the fact that you're fearful
its not a bad thing but at a time i felt i did the same
till i challenged myself not to

i suggest next time it storms you face it, might change your outlook on things other than storms

best,
Shoaib
