I Kissed Away Her Tears!
Back when we were young--my wife used to ask me would I kiss away her tears as she passed into the next life is she should die before me.  I would tell her, "Lady I have never touched a dead body, and I don't plan on starting with yours."  I meant it too, but I really thought I would probably die before she did after all I was five years older than she was and at the time I was in worse health than her so far as either of us knew.

Earlier this year she took a turn for the worse and had to spend some time in the hospital.  Suddenly we began thinking that she might not get to come home again.  About two and one-half weeks later she had to go in the (CCU) critical care unit.  She went back to the regular room, but later had to go back in CCU again.  I spent almost all my time right there by her side after that.  As she began having a more difficult time breathing, I saw tears come into her eyes.  I gently wiped them away and kissed her cheek and forehead repeatedly.

Occasionally, I would look at her face and eyes again.  If there were more tears, I would gently wipe them away again and kiss her again.  After she breathed her last I still kissed her and counted it a great honor to be allowed to do so.  That woman was the sweetest lady that I have ever known in my life.  Even with all our ups and downs it was a privilege
to be married to someone that wonderful.

Author's Notes:
About my wife's death!  I hope that someday soon I will be able to write about other things again.  Since she passed away, that is all that stays on my mind and all I have been able to write about.

The tears are blinding me from trying to comment. How sweet and special this is. What you did meant the world to her, and I think to you also. God Bless /

Why would you write about anything else? This is what fills your heart and mind. Your life has been turned inside out. Until things settle into a pattern you can grasp, keep writing about things as they are. Later on you'll be able to read these and be glad you wrote them. Those of us at CP who know you harbor strong feelings for you. I should think you could actually feel the warmth of the love and caring that's being sent your way. We understand how heart break shatters confidence and alters thinking. But we also know that in time the pieces will make more sense and you'll be able to put your life back into an order you can deal with. Till then, keep putting one foor in front of the other, breathe in, breathe out, and accept comfort from any source. And keep writing about it. Love, ML

I am sure it was...we never truely know the value of something when it is in hand, do we??? You are deeply hurting and I am so sorry. Writing is therapy so I encourage you to write, write, write, never apoligize for it either.

And why not kiss those tears..We will move beyond unfathomable things for love...each tear you wiped was like falling priceless diamonds that you touch..a gem so rare and only made for your heart and hands..May God Bless You with a unburdened heart soon..

Please read my poem, "Bringing  flowers to your doorstep". I wrote this from a word bank but I had your recent poem in mind about you losing your wie...You and my friend Henry inspired the direction I took with it.

Damon this is just a wonderful thing you could do for you wife.  I too find it an honor to be with someone in their last hours.  My belief is that no one should die alone or scared and I feel blesses to help comfort them on their journey.  Your wife  probably remembered your words and new at the end how devoted you were and how much she truly meant to you.

Healing takes time, as I have mentioned before I lost several family member 4 years ago and memorizes are not less painful, pain my tolerance of them is better.  Don't worry about writting about sad things it's normal and healthy to expresses your feelings.  My prayers remain with you and your family.
