A Soldier Named Sam
This is a war that I started
I brought it upon myself so I got it
Sacrifice my friends like Soldiers in soil
My mind is the air force
But my motions look like the chair force
So now it's time to bring it back
A few weeks boot camp now I'm back

So now I'm a soldier did the time but my service isn't over
I've got four years still I can stop being sober
But no this isn't a complaint
My first lieutenant is with me on a date
Man life now seem's really great

But fast forward now to my life
It's been 3 years My lieutenant is now my wife
& I'm in Iran, she gave birth to our first son a week ago
She said his name is Sam
I asked her why
She said his name is Samuel, like his father
He will never die.

My heart flutters & my breathing stops
My wife is now hearing gun shots
The camp is being raided, surprise attack
I can't die here, I promised her I'd be back.
Bullet storm in the sky now,
My cover's almost dried out.
Dig in boy's we're gonna dive out.
Brave men make the world safe,
Stories of hero's are never told straight.

Weeks go by, the lieutenant get's a letter
It's pressed with a presidential seal
She cries before she breaks the seal
It's addressed to her,

"Madam I am sorry to say, Officer Samuel will not be coming home today.
He is injured, still in Iran, but madam he is a hero of our land.
His bravery saved seven lives, he dived on a grenade barely in time.
The blast threw him far, but his suit kept him safe.
He wants me to tell you he loves you, & he is sorry he is late
But he'll be home soon, so wait, & then he & Sam will take you out on mommy's first date"

She cried in happiness, she cried in sadness
She thought she could handle this
But no, she can't
Weeks.
Yes weeks go by

Officer Samuel comes home
Released of duty with honor
Given the Medal Of Honor
A Purple Heart hero
Now home with his lieutenant
& his first in command
The love of his life.
His son Sam.

An interesting account of a soldier's valour and his devotion to family. Well done, devotion and fidelity to God, country and the service is universal. So from a jarhead to a fly boy....Semper Fi!
