The serious moonlight played down upon the beach that lovely evening
The light shimmering on the water in a most unusual way this time
He walked the sands, gazing out at the horizon, which was fading
Twilight was here and light was leaving, giving way to the moon mistress
He noted a lone sailboat on the vanishing horizon, it's running lights seen
And then, he heard, what he thought he heard....a woman singing....faintly
He thought he knew this song....it was her song! Could it possibly be?!
No, she was gone, she passed years ago, she was the love of his life....always
Yet, he kept hearing this, over the crashing of the waves, it seemed to get louder
The more he heard it, the more intoxicating it was, it was her song, for pity's sake!
And then, a slight sent of perfume....hers....Moon Lily. This was crazy
He blinked, then felt a bit dizzy and suddenly, the singing and fragrance was gone
Just like her....
He wandered a bit more, trying to make some sense of this, up the beach, now
He got into his car and started back home to his apartment in South Beach
The Miami skyline appeared, lit like a beacon, it bright lights led the way
As he got in his apartment, he poured himself a strong one and then, to bed
He would dream of this night....and of her
To be continued....
