Coming Out
Coming out is the hardest thing to do
it takes a lot of courage
it takes a lot of confidence
you don't know how people would react to it
you don't know if you can trust them not to tell

Trust plays a major role in whom you come out to
telling the people you know best
leaving everyone else ignorant
hoping that they wont abandon you
... hoping they wont stab you in the back

Knowing that you're secret is frowned upon
knowing that it is considered a sin
being told you are going to hell because of how you feel
being told that you are diseased, just because you're not like everyone else
that it is just a phase and you are just confused
having people believe that you can be cured

it is not a choice that you make
it is who you are
you cant change who you are
you cant change who you like
you can only hope to keep your friends and family
you can only hope to be supported
expecting to be rejected as a person
expecting to be frowned upon

You cant be open about who you are
you have to pretend that you are normal
only open to a select few whom you know wont care
who will always like you for who you are as a person,
never for who you like

coming out is the hardest thing
because once you tell someone there is no going back
you cant tell someone and then say you were lying
you have to bear the consequences
face the discrimination placed upon you

the reality is that no one should be treated differently for having different views
if everyone is 'equal' then why is it so controversial to come out?
Author's Notes:
I've been "out" since I was 12 yrs old. I hid it for many years after my first relationship because of the abuse. Then it was wrong to be myself because of my service in the Army. Recently my bilogical father found me after giving up his parental rights when I was a year old and now I am finding myself having to "come out" all over again.

I think a lot could care less nowadays about which way you swing, most people in the circles I move tend to judge people by the way they are not for their sexual preferences,I mean no one greets someone with hi I'm jack and bisexual or whatever thats their business if it crops up in conversation then deal with it then, if you lie about it you will just putting stumbling blocks in your own path for the future,if they like you they will accept it if not its their problem not yours,as to the poem very much enjoyed reading it ~Graham.
