We Sat Beneath A Willow Tree

We Sat Beneath A Willow Tree

We sat beneath a willow tree –

It gave us shelter from the rain;

It poured so hard we could not see –

From Mother Nature's tears of pain;

My own tears were not far behind –

Just then you brought us to an end;

I tried to make you change your mind –

But you would rather call me friend;

You slipped away into the rain –

Like thieves from scenes of crime do flee;

Left me with nothing but the pain –

You heard me out but could not see;

I hoped you'd reconsider this –

But left you hence with but a kiss.
