My Mistress...The Sea
The sea....a special place of continuous renewal
Where vexations and troubles may be resolved
Along the shoreline, sounds of the sea abound
It is a comfort, a relaxing escape from my reality

The sun shimmers on the water, gulls meander
Making lazy circles in the sky, floating along
Calling out to each other, in their community
Following the fishing boats into port, as they do

The heady smell of the salt sea air, the cool of it
I sit along the jetty, close my eyes and daydream
The breeze and crashing of the waves deliver me
My spirit is set free, my thoughts refreshed anew

An escape for mind, body and spirit....a vacation
My heart belongs by the sea, my mistress is the sea
Would that I join with her and be ravished by her
Yes, I would be privy to all her secrets and desires

One with the sea....a childhood dream and adult wish
To gaze at a sky so blue, so intense, it hurts the eyes
Sailing it's waters and discovering all of it's treasures
I'd be rich and I shall ne'er want for anything else!

The sea certainly doesn't give her secrets easily but it only adds to the amazement it brings to those who gaze upon her. I find sea, ocean, river or lake can bring such calmness to ones soul. Terrific write

Although the sea is real -- I so rarely see it -- that it's like a metaphor to me...  And are we not sailors -- whether or not we are aboard a ship?  I love the sea -- real or fantasy.  Great poem.  --David

There's nothing quite like it, is there. This is beautifully done, reminds me a bit of that song "Brandy".

It is amazing at how inspirational the sea can be to a writer, for some reason we can apply so much of our lives to compare it to the sea. Excellent poem Len.    Henry

Thank you so much for this. I'm an ardent admirer of the sea and it's been a long long time since I've seen her. Are you on a sea-side trip? :)
