Solstice Dawn

Solstice Dawn

She lay upon the great stone prone –

Stonehenge laid out around her form;

The act played on – she did condone –

She – Druid born and did conform;

Around the stone hooded figures –

Sinister in the solstice light;

Chanted whilst disappeared the stars –

And arrived at last the sunlight;

The dagger – long and curved – glinted –

And then the fear within the girl

Like the sun behind her surfaced;

Too late – the end a lightning swirl;

No record of this heinous deed -

Will see the day by all agreed.

Very well done, I have enjoyed this poem immensely. Wonderfulll, darkly wrought. And sadly true of the ancient Druids (some of my ancestors were of the Celtic Druids, the other side of me happens to be Norwiegen). Thanks for sharing this,

John

Did you ever hear of 'CARHENGE'? Just for a note of humor...--David

I once did a great depiction of Stonehenge, in pastels, for a client. This was very chilling, good write.
