Little Girl Lost
What happened to her
happened long ago
she was different than others
special, be the correct word
oh....she was so very special
she was a loving little girl
brighter than anybody her age
and a lot of folks older

a prodigy....

But she just couldn't relate
couldn't turn the corner
never had many friends
they were all too scared
not so much of her, per se'
but what she represented
they couldn't understand her
ignorance spawns fear

fools....cowards....

Her intellect was amazing
simply off the charts
she skipped three grades
went from child to adult
with no stop at adolescence
valedictorian in high school
a prodigy in college
graduated summa cum laude

number one in her class....

Even as an adult, so alone
so very misunderstood
even her peers were in awe
intimidated by her looks
and her magnificent brain
despite her success, she hurt
longing for those things
that always alluded her

love and acceptance....

She never had a lover
never even had a boyfriend
she just kept it all hid deep
her hurt, her disillusionment
her poetry was her only escape
in those troubled words she wrote
lay the girl that no one ever saw
a sweet, loving woman-child

who only wanted to be "normal"....

as time went on, her poetry stopped
the futility of sense and sensibility
finally got the very best of her
she left a somber note for me
apologizing for her "failures"
HER failures.... NOT the others
then one day in early March
after the spring thaw began

Emily, my dear Emily, took her life....

Every year, on the anniversary
anniversary of her untimely death
I shut down my entire company
in observance of her passing
everyone gets paid for that day
and I spend the day at her gravesite
Emily was my best friend, my love
but she was much more than that

she was my beloved daughter....

Author's Notes:
Inspired by Sylvia Plath's breakthrough masterpiece....Ariel. The words and circumstances are all mine, the muse was Sylvia.

I think Sylvia was all that. Beautifully painted in a magical piece of work, Len.  It brought me into tears. Really well done my friend.
