Black Beauty

Skin wonderful shades of brown

 shades of butter pecan,

walnut, mahogany, honey roasted

and a little coffee ground...

honey kissed and sun glistened

skin that's a visual treat

making that chocolate man take a seat

my skin is a natural part of me

part of my natural beauty

inside and out of me

that completely surrounds, see

it's the presence of my Black Beauty...

Braided hair or barely there

however I like to wear it.

Wear it down or wear it up

if I decide to pin it

my hair is a natural part of me

part of my natural beauty

inside and out of me

that completely surrounds, see

it's the presence of my Black Beauty...

My breasts are round,

just my size

enough to make my man's nature rise

and catch others by surprise

my breasts are a natural part of me

part of my natural beauty

inside and out of me

that completely surrounds, see

it's the presence of my Black Beauty...

My intelligence is a mystery

to those who don't consider me

of a class to progressively

interact in my community

but...

my intelligence is a natural part of me

part of my natural beauty

inside and out of me

that completely surrounds, see

it's the presence of my Black Beauty.

Author's Notes:
This poem was in response to a very opinionated person I came across on Blackplanet.com... it is how I see myself as a black woman... enjoy!
