OKLAHOMA THUNDERHEAD

THE NATIONAL STORM SERVICE
HAS ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING
AN F5 TORNADO IS REPORTED ON THE GROUND,
SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY!
I REPEAT
A TORNADO IS ON THE GROUND!

AND ALL THE PEOPLE HID THEMSELVES IN FEAR
BUT ONE.
SHE STOOD TREMBLING IN AWE OF THIS GREAT STORM
AS HE APPROACHED
WITH THE ROAR OF A THOUSAND TRAINS.
WITH LIGHTNING FLASHING ALL AROUND HIM
AND HIS THUNDER SHOOK ALL THE EARTH
FROM THE POWER OF HIS GREAT MIGHT.
AND THE GREAT STORM SAW HER
AS SHE STOOD BEFORE HIM.
AND HE SPOKE TO HER.
AND ALL THE PEOPLE PEEKED FROM THEIR WINDOWS,
TREMBLING AS HE SPOKE.

"WOMAN WHY DO YOU STAND
BEFORE THIS GREAT STORM!
I AM MORE FIERCE THAN A THOUSAND HURRICANES!
AND I PROMISE
THAT IS ONLY THE SMALLEST PART OF ME!
BUT I AM MORE GENTLE THAN THE LANDING
OF A BUTTERFLY
ON HIS FLOWER SO PRECIOUS.
YOU ARE THIS FLOWER!
I HAVE HEARD OF YOU BUT NOW I HAVE SEEN YOU
WITH MY OWN EYES.
AND YOU ARE TRULY
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FLOWER IN ALL THE WORLD.
AND I HAVE COME TO PLANT YOU
IN THE POT OF MY HEART."

SHE WEPT AS SHE REACHED HER HAND OUT TO HIS.
AND ALL THE WORLD STOOD AND LOOKED ON IN AWE
AS HE CARRIED HER AWAY IN THE GREAT STORM.

Author's Notes:

I think we had about ten tornados just around Tulsa this past week. Another poem inspired by the storms.

A very unusual poem... and storms in Oklahoma, I take it, are usual... and in releality it's wiser to hide than stand there looking at the tornado?? :)

I can see why a beautiful blue ribbon dons this piece Keith. It is amazing. I love the places your mind goes, wrapped up in natures call, with all its mighty power, and yet how tender passioned touches can be. Your metaphores are truly amazing. Your trademark I might think. :o) ~Pam

'You are truly the most beautiful flower in all the world and I have come to plant you in the pot of my heart', I love this Keith! This has a positive ending...with her not fearing the storm but willingly wanting to be taken away by it.

Congratulations Keith, this is wonderful, as always!
