Light It On Fire
I sat down today with my box of memories.
I sorted them and stacked them.
Resorted them and stared at them.
I took some old home movies out of the box
And set them to the side.
Beside me, a picture of you.
Before me, a picture of a painful past.

In my heart, a tiny box of memories with you.
Words of love, offerings of confidence.
Scenes of smiles, touch, smell, and sound.
So much smaller, the box of you.
So much newer, less familiar.
In my heart, a garden of love.
In the big box, a forest of chaos.

I played the old movies once more.
I looked at your picture on the floor.
I closed my eyes and listened to the words of the movie.
I felt their sting again, as new as the first time.
I felt tears knocking at the door.
Inside me, a storm of decision.
Around me, familiar pain.

So, I took the advice on one wiser than me.
I lit the big box and its contents on fire.
I chose love.
I chose you.
Author's Notes:
the box and the movies are not real. they represent doubt from the past. Thank you, Alison Storm Wolf the Wise.

Congratulations to Dori Young, the wise, for taking the advice of Storm Wolf and acting on it. Good work; the burning and the writing. ML
