I Wish I Could Be The One
I wish my love could lead you -
Show you where you need to be
Be the one that somehow freed you
Somehow lead you back to me

I wish my words could change this
Make the past just fade away
Be the one to rearrange this
But there’s nothing left to say

I wish my heart could hold you
Hold you close and keep you near
Be the one who knew the “old” you
Keep the “new” you safe right here

I wish my mind could mend this
Make my errors cease to be
Be the one who didn’t send this
But I need to set you free

I am struggling to find the words to critique your poem, as the emotions behind it have taken me over. It just hits home a little bit too much. It was certainly a great write.

I wish this poem didn't make me ache like it does. Jake, you write about so many different aspects of love, whether it be at the peak of it's highest high or in the lowest depths of despair...your words always manage to express these feelings so intensely.

"But I need to set you free"....I feel this poem is about putting reasoning over the heart's desires...not because of 'want', but because of 'need'.

This poem is written with sensitivity and full of heartache. Wonderfully done Jake!
