Unknown Destinations
My eyes

Dart back and forth

Beneath fluttering lids

Sleep ushers me

To unknown destinations

My mind

Floats from scene to scene:

Driving SUV’s in florid jungles

Hiking rugged mountainous cliffs

I am kindred souls

With unknown young and old

My body

Must physically awaken

But my eyelids won’t unseal

My thoughts cannot be captured

In this world of the unreal

My subconscious

Wrestles rising realities

Responsibilities summon me

Suddenly from sleep

My thoughts

Surface like cooking kernels of corn

Popping and bursting to fullness

”What day it is?”

“What time is it?”

“And what do I need to do?”

Author's Notes:
I recently fell asleep one afternoon while reading and woke up suddenly, I couldn’t remember what day or time it was or where each of my children were! Subconsciously, I knew a couple of my sons needed to be picked up (from somewhere!) which is why I think I bolted awake! It all came back to me, of course, in a couple of seconds, but it was a very strange feeling! Oh, by the way, I don't own an SUV, have never traveled to the jungle nor climbed rugged mountains! The things about which we dream! :-)

This is a great description of world of dreams and the half consciousness and confusion upon waking.

I've really enjoyed this display of talent. Excellent work!
