Afraid of the Dark
For a long while now
I've been scared to venture out
After the sun has gone down
And darkness descends to doubt.

Hope is the tallest spire caught
By the last sunlight at it's tip,
The penultimate tear spiralling down,
It's salty taste to burden your lip.

Let me count the ways I love you
By the number of scars on your arm,
And the nights spent in darkness,
Hoping to protect you from harm.

But the real terror after dark
Comes from the oily clay of the black;
The malevolent creativity that gnaws,
To mould this hollow into lack.

For a long while now
I wish I had your light,
I'm so afraid of the dark,
And I wish I had you at night.
Author's Notes:
I'm not *really* afraid of the dark, well okay maybe sometimes :P
