Midnight Oil
I can't sleep at night,
I toss and turn;
my mind won't shut down,
midnight oil, I burn.
Retracing the steps,
down long ago traveled roads,
shifting the weight,
of then burdening loads.
A bright patch of sun,
a glimmer of hope,
a measure of fun or two,
now here I am,
at a dead end road,
the journey's return being done.
And now my mind ponders,
the future to see,
What, I ask, will become of me?
I have already traveled so long and so far,
am already past halfway there;
Never thought I'd be burning the midnight oil,
without plenty of road left to spare.

I can't sleep at
night,
I toss and turn;
my mind won't shut down

... active minds rarely
do, and there's a reason for it. It means your alive and active in
process of living. If it were any other way, I would begin to worry.
But so long as we are restless, so long as we are sleepless, so long
as our mind is full of happy rumblings... it means that we have yet
work to do. A great deal of work to do. Consider it a blessing.

What, I ask, will
become of me?
I have already travelled so long and so far,
am
already past halfway there
Never thought I'd be
burning the midnight oil,
without plenty of road left to spare.

... my friend, the road
never ends. The mortal coil is but an embryo, a flash, a beginning.
Death is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. It is
but the end of the first beginning. It is a starting point, from
which we fold into greater awareness, and into a higher conscience. I
am not a religious man, but if I were to put it in religious terms
I'd be willing to bet... that our soul is like a little bird, that
when it exhausts itself and tires of flying on its own, it returns to
the hand of god... for rest, for rejuvenation, and for further
instruction.

Godspeed my friend, and
may your journey be a peaceful one

See I look at this compared to your poem \"Bark at the Moon\" and think well this is nice but boy have you grown as a poetess because bark at the moon is written by a different person or the same person but having lived a bit more learned a bit more.
