We Were Many

We were many, but now we are few,

A hidden army to fight a hidden enemy,

From our conception at the Fall of Rome,

Our proud ranks swelled in number,

Flooded by men who wanted to resist,

To fight, to destroy the Enemy.

The great Crusades pale into insignificance

When compared to the Crusades we led,

Not just to another land, but to another plane,

We were many, but now we are few,

The last line of defence against the Aggressors,

Now too few to stop the tide,

Gone are the days when we walked in Their land,

Stormed Their fortresses and burnt them to the ground,

The last of the Plane-walkers are dead now,

The secrets of that art carried to their graves.

We were many, but now we are few,

In times gone past, people would call Them Demons,

But that word is a fiction, a lie, a myth,

For they offer hope where none can be found,

If there are Demons, there must be a God,

A light in the overwhelming darkness,

It is a lie, for there is no light in that darkness,

No hope for salvation or redemption,

To call these things Demons is to hide the truth.

We were many, but now we are few,

The darkness approaches our world now,

Soon this plane will be like Theirs,

I have seen men who have returned from that plane,

They are empty, like something has been removed,

It is a land of emptiness, they say, of absence,

A soul sucking void, a vacuum that consumes,

Everything that makes you whole,

Once a proud army, marching under colourful banners,

No longer we fight, now we hide, and wait to die,

The days of the void are almost upon us,

I can feel them approaching,

I watch insincere faces preach from my television set,

Knowing that they are simply masks for the things that have no faces,

The end is here, and not even we can stop them,

Our ranks so depleted by doubt and disbelief,

We were many, but now we are few.
