The Ratline

It has been sixty years since the defeat of Nazi Germany. Afterward, the world watched as monsters of the Third Reich were put on trial for war crimes. Yet, many of those monsters eluded justice, with the help of a country, unto itself. This is a powerful entity, known as The Vatican. This is a fact, not in dispute.

There are recorded interviews of priests who freely admitted to smuggling Nazi war criminals
to the West. A secret network of convents and monasteries were used to this end. The Nazis, smuggled to safety by The Catholic Church included Adolf Eichmann, Walter Rauff, the inventor of the mobile gas chambers, and Klaus Barbie, the "Butcher of Lyons."

The smuggling of these Nazi monsters was personally authorized by Pope Pius XII. His
political adviser, Giovanni Montini, was put in charge of the operation. Montini later became known as Pope Paul VI. The network which managed to re-locate any Nazi with the price of admission was later given the code name, "Ratline." The name of this organization within the church was called, "The Intermarium."

In '46, The Intermarium asked Pope Pius XII to save an entire Waffen SS division, consisting
of 11,000 men, and their families. This Ukrainian division was responsible for some of the
most heinous crimes in world history. These men orchestrated the mass murder of Russians, Jews, and Communists, in the Ukraine, and Poland.

The Vatican is responsible to no man. It neither denies nor retracts any of its pro-fascist
views, before, during, or after World War II. The Nazi gold it laundered through South
America, through the Vatican Bank will never be accounted for. This bank cannot be audited..

There were millions of Catholics, around the world, who bore no responsibility for these and other crimes. They were ordinary people who worshiped, and lead descent lives. It is not the Catholic faith which is corrupt. It is, and has been, for many years, the organization, based in Rome, answerable to no-one, which stands responsible. The old saying is true....
Absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

Every slaughterer of the innocents who paid The Vatican, with stolen gold, to start new
lives, is an affront to the memories of all those who suffered, under Hitler's terrible reign of terror. It has been 60 years since the killing stopped in Europe. There are many war crimes, still not paid for...

Nor, will they ever be.
Author's Notes:
In the memory who those who suffered and died,

so jerks like me can speak our minds.

Don't know how I missed this Len. Worry not, Bush will be invading the Vatican shortly to gather funds for his wars. jp

I have read a lot over the years criticising the Catholic church's activities during WWII. I had read criticism of Pope Pius XII for what seems to have been his reluctance to speak out against the atrocities during the war. But I didn't know all these things about him. Was this the same Pope who, according to historian Martin Gilbert (a Jew)was responsible for saving up to 800,000 Jews from the death camps, personally seeing to it that Vatican buildings and Vatican money was used for the purpose? Is this the same Pope who, according to Rabbi David Dalin, deserves to be regarded as one of the "righteous among the Gentiles" and "a great friend of Jews"? Why did Israel Zolli, the Chief Rabbi of Rome, not only pay homage to Pope Pius XII after the war, but also ocnvert to Catholicism and take the name Eugenio, which was Pope Pius's own first name? I don't believe all Catholics acted well during WWII, and the Church has a lot to apologise for, and has apologised, but I feel you have painted far too dark a picture of the activities of the Church leaders during this period, judging by hindsight. Historical figures have to be judged according to the times and places in which they lived, and we always have to ask why they did what they did. I feel you are judging the protagonists without seeing the bigger picture of the socio-political background within which they acted, not least of which, of course, was the rise of communism. To quote Miriam Zolli, daughter of the former Chief Rabbi of Rome: - "An abyss of evil had opened up, but ordinary people did not believe it and the great ones — Roosevelt, Stalin, de Gaulle — were silent. Pius XII had understood that Hitler would not descend to pacts with anyone, that his madness was of the type that could explode in any direction, in the massacre of German Catholics or in the bombing of Rome, and he acted in the light of this knowledge. The Pope was like a person constrained to move in solitude among the lunatics of an insane asylum. He did what he could. His silence must be read in that context, as an act of prudence, not of cowardice."

so true, unfortunately.
"lift a stone and you will find me,
split a piece of wood and i will be there" (the gospel of st. thomas, declared a fraud by the vatican) wonder why? no need to go to church to speak to god

Holy______! Isn't it amazing what people will do in the name of God??? I don't think there's anything that I can add to what's already been said...Like Jo...*agree with everyone else*. A very informative write, and it really does clarify, even more, why the word "Christian" brings such a collective snort from the rest of the world.
I've often wondered why it is that the priests and nuns must take a vow of poverty, live in barren little places....while the Pope lives in the Vatican, dressed in the finest robes and jewels and precious metals...the Vatican itself glowing like a nuclear power plant at night with all the expensive things, and the "subjects" they "protect and serve" starve to death right outside the gates.
You are aware of my background, and Like Linda, I don't usually criticize any religion, but this write was too clear to deny.
As always, Len, you reach into the guts of the matter and reveal the cold, nasty truth, even though it wanted to remain hidden.
GREAT job, Sir Len, Master of the Pen! (not the pig pen either!)

Wow, it's amazing what one can learn on
a poetry site. I have always been reluctant
to criticize any religion but the information
you have posted here makes me re-think that
policy. Most interesting and informative

Wow, Len, know what hit me most about that poem? That comment in the "about" section. It's so true... not that you're a jerk, but that we all are so oppinionated and many times act like jerks in arguing and being stupid when so mnay people throughtout history have died so that we end up with the freedom to be jerks... and to be selfish... and to think all our little problems are the end of the world. Wow... that last statement really makes me think.

Anyway, about your work... I love it and agree withe evrone else on this page. I adore you for being so bold as to post a piece like this. The Catholic church is corrupt. Actually, I've heard the idea considered that the Vatican may, in fact, be the anti-Chirst. That means nothing to you, of course, but I just thought I'd mention it. This all falls in line with Hold Blood, Holy Grail: "The Hidden Lineage of Jesus Revealed", "Angels and Demons", and the "Da Vinci Code", all books that I have read and enjoyed immensly. I don't know how much research you've done on Martin Luther or the reasons he decided to break away from teh catholic church, but that also adds to this. What the move "Luther." Its pretty good and discusses the ideas of indulgences and corrupt priests and the like. The Catholic Church.... bleh... scary stuff. Your poem really adds to it. Great work, doll. -Jo

Good God, Father Len, I didn't know any of this! I kind of like the Catholic concept, myself. Commit many and assorted sins, go brag about them to the confessor, throw a couple of 'Hail Marys' and an 'Our Father' or two up in the air and walk out as pure as the driven snow! How convenient for the race of men. It's a little hard on the women, but what to they matter?

"Father, I have committed adultery", says Sinner with a smile.
"Tell me about it, my son, and don't leave out any of the juicy details", intones Father Confessor.
"I nailed this big busted bitch last night, Father, and her little ass was grinding like she couldn't get enough", Sinner shakes his head and unconciencely rubs his crotch.
"Ah, ah yes, was she a redhead", pants father confessor?
"No she was a blond. She slid under the table, Father, and let's just say she could suck a golf ball through a garden hose! The tramp was insatiable", laughs the Sinner.
"Oh Lord", moans Father Confessor. "Get me an alter boy....".
"Father, are you OK", Sinner asks?
"Oh! Oh! Arrrgh", moans Father Confessor.
"Father, do you need help? Can I get you anything"?
"OH GOD! OH GOD! THE RAPTURE!!!!.......Yes, a moist towelette", gasps Father Confessor.
"Tee off time is seven A.M. Joe", says Father Confessor.
"I'll see you there Father", answers Sinner Joe as he drops a fifty in the collection box........

Father Len, be reasonable! They've done the crusades thing, the inquisition thing, the molest the alter boys thing, the lovely outfits while children starve thing, so what's a few million Jews among enlightened Christians! Sheesh, Len, you're so judgemental! Jude

You are a brilliant man Len. I love history and every aspect of it. This is so true, an incredible write. The "Church" is just as corrupt. Joe

Well cuz, you know how i feel about the Catholic church but just for good measure I will endorse every word you have written. Why these true "ABOMINATIONS!" are either ignored or simply not known to the majority of poor followers who live in terror of eternal damnation if they step out of line...........well it just sickens me to the pit of my stomach!!!

So many people SO scared for so long led by a bunch of the most corrupt people in the world.
I liked the last pope...I thought he was a decent man who prayed earnestly. I did not agree with his teachings however.

Its high time the people were given back their power...power the church stole from them centuries ago with threats of hell's fire. Well, those persecuted by the nazis did not have to wait till they were dead to see and experience hell!
One can only wonder what fate awaits these "men in jewelled robes" who aiided and abetted the escape from earthly justice to these demons.
If they really and truly believe in hells wrath...I would be pretty worried if I was them at what awaits them in the next dimension. All the jewel encrusted robes and 'pious hands clasped in prayer' will not protect them then.

Compared to their crimes...what crime is it to fall in love with someone who is maybe not your husband / wife/ same sex???
LOVE the most exquisite gift from God himself!
We need to get real and realise that Jesus himself threw out the money lenders from the temple. He was not a limp wristed do-gooder.
Imagine what he would do the the gold incrusted churches in the lands where children live scavening on rubbish dumps and die in the streets?
May God have mercy on those who are guilty...then again...maybe not...
Alison Storm Wolf sickened by the curruption!!!

Dear Len, thank you so much for this great documentary. I knew part of the whole stuff because I have seen a lot of films about the Vatican. They are one of the the richest firms in the world.

I have always had strong reservations regarding the wealth of the Catholic Church the World over. I just read about the Nazi gold being laundered through South America throught the Vatican in this write. There are churches today in certain countries of South Americs, where the interiors are lined with gold. In these said countries many of their citizens are dirt poor. I thank you for this gold and enlightening write Len.

Then they were only men after all Len!...Hahahaha

You'll burn in orthodox *hell* for this one Len Wilson, unless of course you repent all sin, say ten hail Mary’s, and write me a story about a tramp steamer going across the South China Sea!...which I am sure these religious people did to salve their consciences.... well the repent all sin bit anyway, I am sure they were not poets or writers!....Hahahahaha…..isn't it a strange religion that allows you to do anything so long as you repent it afterwards?

Interesting piece Len, guess you and I can kiss good bye to being invited to tea there now!....
