~My Selfish Wishes~

While walking on,
the beach one night.
I suddenly saw,
a wondrous sight.

A Genie lamp,
is what I found.
Lying right there,
on the ground.

I thought and thought,
is this for real.
Or is it a prank,
how foolish I'd feel.

I picked it up,
and rubbed three times.
A genie appeared,
speaking in rhymes.

There is a term,
for me granting your wish.
The term is that,
you can't be selfish.

Thinking long and hard,
as not to be in haste.
For I didn't want,
my wishes to be a waste.

My first wish,
would be world peace.
For all the wars,
to finally cease.

Secondly I wish,
for family cheer.
And all the people,
I hold dear.

My third and final wish,
is a cure for disease.
For everyone to have,
healthy bodies.

As I thought more about,
what I had wished.
I suddenly realized,
that I was being very selfish.

For all the things that,
I had wished for.
Affected my life,
and the people I adore.

Author's Notes:
My first wish affects my oldest son who is in the Marines.
My second wish affects my family and all the people around me.
My third wish is for my sister Paula who has Leukemia.
We just found out she is in remission.

Wow!  You're right!  Even though all these wishes seem very selfless, I guess they all do circle back around to what you want.  Well, what else on Earth WOULD you wish for?  The only indication of what would be an appropriate wish are the things in your life you'd like to change!  Therefore, no matter how selfless a person you are, you're forced to select from a number of options that will somehow affect you.  Other things might need fixing, but we're just naturally oblivious to what's outside our sphere. Very thought-provolking stuff here, Tracy.  You've touched on the realm of truth quite nicely.

If only it were possible to find a
magic lamp and wish away wars, disease,
and all the sadness in the world.
Very nice penning.
