If Life Was A Book

If Life Was A Book

If life moved along

Like the turning of a page

I would flip back the chapters

That were old, yellowed and aged

I would bend back the corners

Of the best times of my life

And pass through quickly

The ones filled with strife

I would place a book marker

On the times I spent with you

But as sad as it is

Those pages are too few

I would read from cover to cover

Take notes along the way

Of things I would do differently

If I had another day

I would cherish every character

No matter how small were their parts

And take pictures from my mind

And decorate it like art

I would dust off the cover

And place it on a shelve

So I could be reminded daily

Of life’s incredible wealth

A testimony to my last comment on "Overwhelming Greif for Dad"

Brillant work Jeff

if only we could go back and redo bad occurances and relive the good.

Jeff,  A well deserved award on this one!  Your a very good writer! You should have your works published? You have plenty!  Your voice needs to be heard for wisdom cannot be bottled ands thrown into the sea in the hope that someone will find...  We poets have a responsibility!!! To share our wisdom, our joys and pain so others may understand better why it is they write poetry?  It's not for them to know why we write at all, for we learn from each other! This is the gift of the poet and our wisdom to help others understand themselves!    Take Care, Clay TheWolf...

Instead life became a poem and an excellent one at that, well deserved of its award ;)  It has the spirit of "Carpe Diem" and the voice of wisdom, imho.  Cheers!  Aeth

Congratulations Jeff on a piece well done. Original, imaginative, captivating. I like the metaphor of book to life's years of pages...and you have vividly given the right way to handle each...perhaps in time there will be a whole chapter devoted to Mrs Right..meantime, keep adding pages...joia

Dear Jeff-
I must admit that I was truly impressed when I
read this!
Although I have been so busy over the last 6 or so
months, there have been a few writers here that
I've watched grow-
Your ability to express your inner feelings and
emotions have just catipulted over the time since
I read one of your poems a long while back.
Please take this compliment and allow it to
further boost the confidence of being a talented
and growing artist of words-
I give you a standing ovation!
Congratulations on this well deserving piece-
Best Wishes to You and Yours~

What a special poem, Jeff...I love the comparison of Life unto a book....Clever idea....Favorite line of the work===

"I would bend back the corners
Of the best times of my life"
