Why?___More of an observation than a poem.

Poetry is oft looked down upon as being some-what strange
and few people will pick up a book of poetry astheir choice of reading.

Billions of books of different genres are read daily throughout the world,
yet only a fraction of those books are the crafted words of poetry.

WHY?

Poetry is an art form in its own right and relays thoughts, emotions
loves and fears of the poet.
It is a glimps into the microcosm of the mind and heart of the writer.

Their poems take the reader on a journey that they will
experience no-where else in life.
It will cause them to laugh, cry, or ponder on a subject
perhaps not thought of before.

A poets skill of art will take the reader on a journey of unlimited
imagination, and it is here,
where they will find an infinity of possibilities.

They will enter a world so unique and spell binding,
it may well change their own out-look on life.

Poetry is a love of communication that the spoken
word often cannot convey.

There is such beauty in poerty, and yet sadly,
the world generally misses out.

Damn Mr. Goldenpen, I couldn't have said this any better. Even if you would have given me the words to write. I see why you have a gold pen!

I share in the 'why' of your observation, William~ The novel is there be marketed for the fashion and fad of the week, so to speak~ Whereas poetry, is likened to a Journal of the Poet's life~ And, in poetry books, people oft times feel the emotions too vividly, and shy away thinking of fiction only~ Great observation, Sir William...Thank you for writing it...

I think in many cases people are afraid that reading poetry will brand them as being "Strange" or "different." What they don't realize, William, is that being "strange" or "different" is wonderful! I'd rather be a bit different than to be like sheep, following whatever seems to be the trend of the week. Poetry, to me, is expressions of the heart and soul, sometimes full of laughter, sometimes full of anger...Love...pain...hysteria. Many won't read poetry because it is too personal and makes them have to stop and think about things in their own lives.
This is a great reminder of why we poets ARE poets, and I love being a part of this unique family...because we ARE different.
Hugs to you!
Glata....reading more poetry :)
