~Letting My Shield Down~

There was a time when,
I built up a wall as my shield.
It was my form of protection,
until my heart was healed.

I had gone through,
a very bitter divorce.
My Ex took everything,
and felt no remorse.

He took my two children,
A girl and a boy.
They were only 3 and 5 years old,
and my pride and joy.

He moved them over 800 miles away,
told them that I didn't care.
It took me a month to find them,
it was my worse nightmare.

The courts stated they,
couldn't do a thing.
He had every right,
to leave my heart aching.

He wouldn't let me call,
or see my kids for years.
All the time that they were gone,
I shed many tears.

When my son turned 13,
he held nothing back.
He wanted to live with me,
so he set up his plan of attack.

He did anything he could,
to piss his dad off.
His strategy was working,
until the final payoff.

I got the strangest phone call,
from my Ex one night.
Damien wants to come live with you,
will that be alright.

My eyes filled with tears of joy,
I couldn't even speak for a moment.
Was this just the same dream,
that I had very frequent?

After the realization that,
it was not a dream.
I was so excited that,
I began to scream.

Of course I want him,
don't be a fool.
He didn't get here for a week,
but when he finally did it was so cool.

On this day I finally,
let my shield crumble down.
I put a smile back on my face,
instead of my sad frown.

This brought tears to my eyes and my heart. It is a horrible thing to have had to go through, and there are not enough words to express my sympathy and empathy for your pain. The kids always know though, no matter how much misinformation they are fed through spite!! They know their momma loves them, and always will!! I am thankful to you for sharing your heart with these words.
