Can you Remember?

Can you remember

the times I confided my most

darkest secrets in you?

Though you forced the words out

I ended up trusting you.

Can you remember

the many times you have used

them against me,

the times you made me feel

worst than the dirtiest dirt?

Can you remember

How I cried and remained numb

at the expense of your lashing tongue,

how I trembled like a leaf

watching you break the things

we worked hard to earn?

Can you remember

the way I felt every time I

found out that you have been cheating on me,

how depressed I got and

how quick I was to forgive you

thinking it to be the last time?

Can you remember

when you promised on your knees,

in the name of the Lord,

that you will never hit me again,

never insult me again, and never make me cry again?

Can you remember

the length of time you kept those promises,

that only two weeks after

you broke all three in a row?

And can you remember

the consequences afterwards,

though that did not stop you from doing it again?

Can you remember

when I got you to taste

just a little drop of your own medicine?

You could not swallow it

cause the taste was so bad.

Can you remember

ever asking yourself how I managed

that awful medicine in small doses

and later in full dose and yet stayed around?
