A Soldier's Letter

Dear love I write to you from the war

I donít think I can take much more

Inside Iím fighting a battle every day

You know how I get being so far away

The loneliness just keeps driving me crazy

Please tell me something about our baby

Many nights I wish just to hold her dear

I really need to get myself out of here

Counting down the days I would be a fool

Iíve learnt sometimes that life is too cruel

The enemy is at my door I feel expectation

Being taken down by my own imagination

I wonder what you are doing home today

If you still smile when with baby you play

A bomb dropped recently didnít land too far

My escape was a close one, it left me a scar

Sometimes I feel too wounded to even speak

All this non stop fighting has made me weak

Across so many bloodied battlefields I roam

Hoping and praying for a call to go home

I miss you more than youíll ever even know

Everyday I worry that one day youíll just go

Know that if I donít find my way back to you

This soldier loves you and this letter is true

Author's Notes:
Sometimes just making it through another day is a war on its own, and when you are away from the one you want to be with the war seems never ending. In the old days the soldier's would write a letter to pass the time and try to fight of the feeling of being alone.

This one almost moved me to tears. My cousin's partner is often away and its a frightful time for her. So recieving a letter like this must be hard for your partner and with a baby involved must make each day harder, missing out on their childhood. But you know what, its not all that bad because they are going to grow up knowing their daddy is a hero, they will have the upmost respect for you and its another light of hope in your life. :)

I havent read this poem for at least three years and it makes me cry now, now that my friends have gone off to war and a close one has recently passed. I am amazed at how brilliant you are sometimes. This poem breaks my heart because i think of Him and miss him terribly. once again wonderful job....

Dear Nate-
As I consistantly see poems displayed here from
writers all over the planet it reminds me of how
we each have the same feelings over the insanity
of this war-
I thought this was heartfelt and a much needed
message that we need to speak out at the leaders
responcible to send these soldiers home-
Thank You for sharing this~
Best Wishes to You My Friend~
Peace~
James
