Iíve have seen people

Living in cardboard homes

In some back alley

Lost and alone

The wino is sleeping

While the bag lady cries

For the soul in the next box

Who flew on tonight

Weíve got to take care

Of the homeland first

Feed all our children

And quench their thirst

You canít be a brother

To the whole wide earth

Until you

Take care

Of the homeland first

We open our doors

For all to behold

Give us your hungry

And give us your poor

Give us your tired

And give us your old

Theyíre gonna find

All that glitters ainít gold

We sing of the Heartland

And of itís amber grain

Now that heart is breaking apart

Tears are rolling down the fruited plain

All across this country

There is anger and fear

Will the horn of plenty

Be empty next year

Some time ago

We heard the alarm

But now, another heart man

Has lost his farm

Welcome to the world of sound! Good lyrics, poverty is the real enemy in this world and you have to start fighting it somewhere, so why not where you live... Good song!

You are so incredibly multi talented. Your serenade on the veranda
would make for a perfect evening. This is absolutely wonderful.

Strong message, great lyrics, and a song delivered with an ease that is just adorable.

I used to be one of those homeless drunks, buddy..Nothing but illness such as addiction seperates the homeless from the mainstream..Now that this site has audio, I'd like to hear this one,,,len

Joe, you've touched a place in my heart with this write, and I, too have to say thanks! So much is given away to other countries who, yes, need it, but we have forgotten that just a few steps away are streets teeming with people that need the help that is being sent off to others.
Hugs to you, Joe, and!

We certainly do have our fair share of problems to take care of. I'm sure these lyrics have been sung in the minds of many who didn't feel comfortable enough to put them in print.

Good lyrics Joe. We need to do a better job of taking care of our own while at the sametime being charitable to the rest of the world.

You have done so very well with your lyric messages~ Indeed, we need to work on the Homeland first, rather than billions floating to foreign hands....
...I really liked the thought you gave the homeless....thanks for sharing..
Hannah would hug you~!!!

These lyrics are wonderful and I agree with Henry I would love to hear them put to music. It is so true we open our dorors to everyone when they are in need and they slam their doors on us.
