The Fairy Tree

Out at the end of our back yard

There’s a big old willow tree

Daddy says there’s fairies

That live between the leaves

Momma says that after dark

They glow and sparkle bright

An watch over all the children

As they sleep throughout the night

Daddy says they’re magic

He calls them little Sprites

Momma says they’re like angels

Shining with God’s light

So I stayed up late one evening

When I should have been asleep

And I wrapped up in a blanket

And sat in the window seat

I watched that weeping willow tree

And tried with all my might

To see the Fairies coming out

But my eye lids slid down tight

And then I felt like I was flying

Lifted me right up off that seat

And I flew across the bedroom

And was placed between my sheets

Well, I asked Momma the next morning

And she said it must have been

The fairies who found me fast asleep

And put me in my bed

I’ve tried to see those sparkle lights

So many different times

But they always seem to come out

As soon as I close my eyes

How sweet! This poem brings joy to the heart. Willows are one of my favorite trees as their branches sway and dance in the wind...a perfect place for fairies!
