In a place of poetry in motion,
I met you one day, my friend.
Cautiously I walked with you,
for I had a damaged heart to defend.
I was not able to see your face,
though I knew you were just as scared.
Your heart had been scarred as well.
Our stories we easily shared.
The hardest part for me
was to continue moving forward.
Each time I took a step toward you,
I wanted to run two steps backward.
Still, you continued walking,
calmly making your way to me.
You took my heart and held it gently,
and soon I finally did see.
I saw inside your heart
an offer of friendship, love and trust.
Knowing you had been hurt badly too,
I knew that I must try, I must.
Moving forward, you and I,
giving and learning to trust again,
have taught me invaluable lessons,
for as much as where we've both been.
Today, my friend, I want to say
thank you so very much
for believing and trusting in me.
My heart you have truly touched.
