Where Freedom Finds Wings

An inheritance of laughter
            echoes down the halls,
Where once an ocean-deep voice
            sent jovial tidings, and
The world screeches
                                    to a halt;
An endless silence in its place.

Mocking tears slip fervently
            down tired cheeks,
Where once dry, chapped lips
            dotingly kissed, and
The world screeches
                                    to a halt;
A chilling numbness in its place.
Reflections of vivid dreams
            paint a stoic atmosphere,
Where once their captor
            held them dear, and
The world screeches
to a halt;
An anguished heart in its place
Infinite, open space suddenly
            flutters white wings,
Where once only deterring limits
            were ever seen, and
The world spins again;
                                    on an axis
of treasured memories…

Excellent work, Meg. You so perfectly express the chaos that stuns and devastates us when we lose one we love. "The world screeches to a halt" indeed. And a wonderful outlook is expressed in the hope of the last verse. May you find comfort and relief from pain soon. Love, ML
