"Discarded Flag"
I found a discarded flag today
By the roadside were it laid.
I thought how majestically spangled,
By the roadside now tragically strangled.

My mind began to wonder
And on one thought began to ponder.
Oh how dedicated this flag has served
And better appreciated this flag deserved.

Round I came, this flag must be spared.
To pick it up, no one else dared.
Slightly maimed, this flag I gathered
Gently not to hurt its body tattered.

In a prominent place it now stands
No longer haunted in distant lands.
This flag now highly regarded
Will never more to be discarded.
Author's Notes:
I pledge allegiance...To the many men and women who have selflessly served.

I loved this.  There is a genuine lack of respect for our Flag and what it symbolizes today.  How well do we teach our children...I wonder?  Wonderful piece.  Thank you for taking her home.... ~Pam
