The pulsating beat of the drums rolls through the night
Dark skies echo to the vibrant beat
That even the insects are quiet

Animals turn ears to the distant sounds
Hides twitching
As eyes roll in fear

Throbbing reverberations fill the air
Rhythmic thunder
The crescendo building, deafening

Around the roaring fire
Lithe dark bodies move
Twisting, gyrating in the frenzy of the dance

Celebrations of victory over the enemy
For victory was theirs today

With loud ululations the women cry
As praises are sung to the warriors brave

“Hau! Indoda (Men) we chased those slinking hyena
Yellow dogs they were running before us

Our spears like lightening
Struck them down

Like the roaring of the lion
We brought fear to their cringing hearts

With the forcefulness of the elephant
We crushed them beneath our trampling feet”

Not only did you have wonderful imagery in this poem, I could hear it too. Nicely done. You give honor in this tribute to a heritage that will never be forgotten as long as there are people like you to tell of it.
