Soul Singer *Co-written with James Whitworth*
As the longest ache must come to pass,
So her days of rain will end in drought.
Until that time she continues to ask,
"What good this heart when emptied out?"

Remarkable compassion, burdened with remorse,
The sin of remembrance no longer a choice.
A life viewed only in glimpses, forced
Into silent existence, removed from voice.

Behind barricades of deceptive truth,
Suspended in motion, sounds indistinct.
Under falling stars, from heaven down-cast,
Bullets of silence, prolonged yet succinct.

Interchangeable memories lost to my light.
Within reach of my persuasive hand,
Blow a kiss goodbye to indentured nights
From that unaided shore on which you stand.
Author's Notes:
Co-Written with the sensational James Whitworth!

Thank you, James. *blows kiss*

I liked this alot.  You two flowed very well together.  The true mark of a successful collaboration is when you can't tell it's more than one author.

While there is a tinge of solitude to this, there is also much hope and encouragement. Great collaboration Jody and James!    Henry

This poem should have a tag attached: "Caution, may be haunting".
An exquisite piece on the singer of soul - or the soul of a singer.
J and J, your collaborations are always a highlight :-).

I like the motion in this write. Going from within to the shore.  It creates the lonely feeling for me.
Comment By: ModeratorHenry M. on August 30, 2006 07:18:03 PM Report
The lonliness exudes from the words of this, great co-write Jody and James!   Henry

I wonder what the view is like from the top… seems to me that you continually manage to keep your head up even when it is apparent that you must be looking down to see where the rest of us live (well at least me)… This is another great one… line for line… I’m envious… and grateful…

Excellent poem. Well done to both of you. I could feel an abandoned loneliness and an encouragement that the feeling will pass. jp

That is such a lie, jolen! Writing with someone else just hightens the enjoyment. I'm telling the Master, that you lied. You know he doesnt like it when you lie.

OMG...I only wish there was a word or phrase to tell you how this read. I could use adjectives like stunning, beautiful...but nothing compares to what you have written, and no compliment could be enough . Standing ovation here...holy cow...BB

This is one of the best poems I've seen on CP. Whatever formula you used to get to it might be worth repeating. I want to read this again and again over a period of time. I hope lightening strikes twice. The beauty of desolation, my love.
