You, Me, and the Giggle Tree
I walk the path that we walked, because I miss you.
Remembering what you looked like beside me makes me less blue.

I see the fence you had me climb under little guy!
But today I am alone and have no reason to try.

Now I sit beside the giggle tree.
You and I found it while playing follow me.

It turned into Simon Says and I played along.
Your commands started out timid and turned strong.

You found that I would do as you say, you were Simon after all!
How neat you found, that an adult would heed to your call.

You said: Simon Says touch the tree,
and when I poked it instead, you giggled at me.

Such a genuine laugh my spirit soared.
I smiled at you while you roared and roared.

Right now there is a chill in the wind.
Beside me the branches of the giggle tree sway and bend.

I can feel that it misses you too.
And agrees these times were way to few.

I walked away from the tree which was by a school.
Around the corner is a play ground which you found cool.

As the sun shines on me I am sitting on a swing alone.
In the quite I listen to it's old chains squeek and groan.

Here we played, you and I did.
You made me feel like a big kid.

Crunch of play ground gravel under my feet as I leave.
I am still in search of my moods reprieve.

We were on the path towards home and you knew it.
But you'd forgotten we were playing Simon Says and you blew it.

All you would have had to say was, Simon Says don't go home.
You could have said it, there were so many places left to roam.

If I would have known it would be so long before I saw you again...
No, wait.... I don't live life through coulda-been.

So my walk ends where it began.
My mood didn't better from my plan.

Man I miss you little guy.
I sadly go in the house with a sigh.
Author's Notes:
My sister and her kids lived across the street from me for years. I would go on long walks with my nephew and I would have fun just being a big kid with this 4 year old little wonder. This is about remembering one of the walks we went on after they moved two states away. I don't have kids of my own yet and I miss my nephew and niece terribly.

I remembered this one by the title, though... Why do I keep coming back to this poem?  I like it alot, Angelique.  Maybe you should submit it for a contest. Peace.
