Chemistry 101
electron exchange

two elements collide

forming this chemical bond

atoms configure

filling the shell

and atoms react with each other

near completion

energy changes

heat released

Iím staring at you

across the crowded room

and you know without looking

I've always wondered what all the technical going ons were about with me.  Reminds me how Mr. Spock would sum up things but I like the human elememt of it all at the end.

Well actually Cindy it is a bit more complicated than that. The male atom goes into an exited state because  the female  atom's paired protuding SP orbitals are causing an induced electrical field in the male atom's P orbital so that its unpaired electron is suddenly erected into a higher energy level. This standing state is unstable and when the electron flops down to a lower less static shell it emits invisible radiation that in its turn cause the the female SP orbitals to enlarge slightly thus inducing an even higher energy transtion in the male P orbital. This process causes a positive feedback type chain reaction, which results in the highly exted P orbital transforming the SP orbitals and generating a positive hole in the female atom which the P orbital is now able to enter, resulting in a temporary union of the two atoms and the expenditure of a great deal of electromagnetic energy. Depending upon the whether the female atom is sufficiently electrophillic and the male atom is willing to permanently donate its electrons to the female atom,  this may result in a permanent union of the two atoms into a combined molecular pair. If not the excited state quickly expires and both atoms find themselves isolated and lacking the kinetic energy to enter any reactive relationships for a considerable time.

I jest not - see
