~~He Paid the Price for Me

He Paid the Price for Me

Hands of cracks and blisters

I kissed them to soothe the pain

He said "don’t worry darling”

The pain will be gone someday

He slaved for many years

A back broken in two

His feet engorged inside of

The same old crusty shoes

His body surrendered long ago

Each day he grew more tired

I knew it would not be to long

For his time here would expire

I remember as a little girl

I begged him not to leave

For I knew that he was off to a place

Where he was paying the price for me

His heart had lead him through his fight
 His earnings spent on me

He gave me everything he had

  His gifts were so costly

I cried for his decaying body

He always wiped my tears

He said "Please don’t ever be upset!”

There is nothing you should fear

"These are all a symbol”

He talked of the wounds he bared

"So in your heart you will always know

How much love for you I share”

Each evening he’d limped into my room

A face only wrapped in pride

He often hoped the shine on his face

Would cover his pains inside

He could barely kneel beside me

To bid me a kiss goodnight

For him to balance upon his legs

Was a terrifying sight

His weary bones covered by sores

Like a combat soldier in a war

He told me once to never forget

I was worth even so much more

Laid within a deserved refuge

A body... a badge of honor

The soul of one generous man

He is my beloved father

Author's Notes:
A father who worked extremely hard to provide for his daughter, they only had each other and they strived to comfort each other..He's pain from his labors brought her tears of sadness and happiness for she knew he worked that hard because he loved so much and wanted to give her everything.
