Never Satisfied-Villanelle
Never Satisfied
Greed, as old as mankind,
Even from the babe suckling at the breast.
Why is satisfaction so hard to find?
What must we have in mind
When we grasp at everything like a quest?
Greed, as old as mankind.
When it comes to things refined,
They all say moderation is best.
Why is satisfaction so hard to find?
Craving power, money or to be wined and dined,
One of the seven sins you don't want to invest.
Greed, as old as mankind.
In hindsight we see that we were blind,
To have over indulged with so much zest.
Why is satisfaction so hard to find?
Greed can strain the ties that bind.
It robs the family of its vested interest.
Greed, as old as mankind,
Why is satisfaction so hard to find?
Author's Notes:
I wanted to try out the style Villanelle.  The rhyme scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.  The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughtout the poem, and appear together in the last two lines.

I think you combined the style with the topic of the week wonderfully! Greed...what a great inspiration, huh? It's something that the entire world is smothered with.

Hugs  and smiles!
