After All These Years

After All These Years

I would have given anything
Just to have you as mine.
I tried to give you everything,
But somehow you were blind.
After I gave into your charms,
Couldn’t you feel the love in my arms?
After I gave….
After I gave….
It should have set off some alarms.
I was so young and so in love
And so very selfish.
I thought you were sent from above
To grant my every wish.
You gave your ring to another.
I was so envious of her.
You gave your ring,
You gave your ring,
We lost touch with one another.
Just as I had made a new life
For myself without you,
Now you want to make me your wife.
From a young girl I grew
Beyond those years for you I chased,
Self-esteem regained and truth faced.
Beyond those years,
Beyond those years,
Thus our lives are still interlaced.
Author's Notes:
I had a what if moment at work today.  What if someone I had a crush on years ago comes back into my life?  What would I tell him?
Trying a new form called Trijan Refrain.

I think many of us can relate to that "what if" moment that you described so well in this poem. I enjoyed this write.

I think that we all pull up the "what if's" on occasion, and you did a fantastic job with this one.

Great work...
