Feathers Are Flying All Over The Place

I walked in the bedroom and to my surprise
Saw a vision which gave me delight
I thought it was snow drifting down from the skies
Swirling 'round the room were specks of white

It couldn't be snow for as everyone knows
That the place that it snows is outside
There were white fuzzy fluffs falling high and low
Which just couldn't be caught though I tried

My hands in the air reaching up in despair
As I tried to find out what this was
Jumped up and I grabbed but I wasn't prepared
For the fuzz that I found was because

Feathers are flying all over the place
They're on me wherever I go
On my nose, in my mouth, they're all over my face
How this happened I just have to know

I wasn't alone because eatin' a bone
Was Ginger who we had adopted
A dog lost, and then tossed, who was left all alone
The Katrina survivor we opted

Though from Mississippi 'twas easy to see
That Ginger the dog was a sweetheart
Although she's not vicious, bein' suspicious me
Wondered if she had a part

I looked on the floor and I wondered no more
For Ginger the dog wore a smile
She was covered in feathers which she adored
From the featherbed she had defiled

She leaped and she twisted and strongly resisted
When I tried to get hold of her jaws
Came a muffled yell "You better cease and desist!"
From my mouth which was now filled with paws

Now feathers are flying all over the place
How I'll clean them up I'll never know
Ginger smiles and feathers all cover her face
Which is now positively aglow

Like a blizzard white feathers are just everywhere
I can barely see clearly the hall
In my mouth, on my tongue, in my nose and my hair
While i'm trying to vacuum the wall

I'm chasing them down as they swirl all around
One is floating by over the toilet
If I can just last and get over there fast
I know I'll be able to foil it

These feathers, white feathers, they float everywhere
I just can't get them off of my lashes
I'm starting to itch, and beginning to twitch
I wonder if feathers cause rashes

I leap through the air, feathers stuck in my hair
Wielding the hose of the vacuum
Trying not to despair, as I look out and stare
At the feathers which now fill the whole room

Now Ginger is rolling in feathers and lolling
About in the pile on the floor
I tell her to stop but there's just no controlling
Ginger who tries to find more

They flutter and stick to my face like a mask
'Cause I'm sweating from this feather chase
Ginger please Stop! is this too much to ask?
I don't think I can keep up this pace

'Cause feathers are flying all over the place
They stick to my face as I sweat
From leaping and swatting on this feather chase
I keep trying to catch them and yet

While chasing the feathers I'm wondering whether
When dad comes home he will go manic
'Cause all of these feathers are so hard to tether
And dad the fanatic will panic

My arms look like wings cause these feathers just cling
And I think its time I took a shower
Iím too tired to sing; hope the phone doesnít ring
'Cause Iíll be in the shower for hours

I'm finally done, seems the battle was won
And these feathers are under control
Ginger is dreaming.... or could she be scheming
Because Ginger has only one goal

To see feathers flying all over the place
Who will clean them up she couldn't care
In her dreams she has feathers all over her face
Could it be she prefers them to hair?

I'm so glad you reposted this thing. It's just as much fun to read now as it was then. But, I've got to know how you reposted and kept your old comments. I didn't know we could do that. It's great. I just love this poem and the John Denver tune you chose. ML

Most enjoyable story. Your rhyme and meter carry throughout, and that's difficult. I know, I've written a few stories in rhyme. Well done Star. jp

This is perfect!  Dogs are adorable most of the time, but once in a while, they are hilarious!!  Great effects and the picture says it all.
