Refrain:
Oh, do you know the moon Triton
That orbits round Neptune?
This tale of how she came to be
The largest rocky moon.
(I)
Once thought part of the Kuiper Belt
And larger than the rest,
Triton always felt out of place,
Wanting to be the best.
(II)
She thought of all that empty space
Out waiting to be claimed,
She dreamed of her own orbit
Around the Sun’s hot flames.
(Refrain)
(III)
One day she told her friends goodbye
And took off toward the Sun,
But her speed was just a hair off,
Neptune ended her run.
(IV)
He caught her in his gravity,
His pull tugged her along,
Trying to spin away from him,
Her orbit turned out wrong.
(Refrain)
(V)
She has come to accept her fate
Throughout these many years
Of being so close to Neptune,
But cries icy cold tears.
(VI)
With a frosty pink polar cap,
She wants to stay around,
But with Neptune’s energy pull,
Her future is not sound.
