The Gods Are Jealous *For Ross McCague's Birthday*

"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darken'd ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits..."

    -- John Keats

The Gods will have their secrets, and this, you well know.
They are jealous masters, these grand illusionists
who jactitationally govern life’s traveling minstrel show.
Vulcan stokes the furnace, before he weaves his verse.
This enigmatic god is your patron, his passionate nature
for creation or destruction--both blessing and curse.
Sapphire’s cold light awakens your third-eye
that you may look into the rabbit’s hole -
or see through the doorway beyond the sky.
It is here, when you are immersed in cold-fire
where you hear those whispers from winds;
that, bound not by flesh, will never expire.
So it is with your story, which seems too near the end -
this is only a preface to the next chapter,
and such things of beauty are remembered, my friend.

I'm truly impressed by your talent.Well deserved award.Congrats.....

It's not easy to write pieces that have that "matter of fact, yet sensitive" style.

I'll check back soon.
Take care.

Amen..Ross is indeed one of the finest poets I've read, and stands with the other greats in his own gentle  way. This was a remarkable dedication to him, his work, and I know he truly appreciated it.
Happy Birthday Ross,
