Christmas comes but once a year
A time of give and take
Of presents, gold , incense and myrrh
Souls to warm and hearts that break
For those no longer with us
Yet their spirits all around
Some long gone, reduced to dust
Still in thoughts in sight and sound
For some, it will be a first alone
Their loved ones passed away
No one to bring their Christmas home
Only tears to wipe away
For others new additions
To young to understand
The hectic pace and frustrations
That with Christmas go hand in hand
For them this time is special
One more to share their dreams
Their house, now home, is now complete
A family now it seems
There are those, who have been forced apart
By distance, or circumstance
A time of longing and aching hearts
With encounters based on chance
But Christmas still is Christmas
A time thats full of cheer
To gather friends about us
Sharing love as well as tears.
