Bonefire* of the Inanities

Bring ancient Yuletide customs back
For now its clear the world does lack
Courage and reason and turns from light
And some still argue wrong is right.

In the darkness Mother Earth
Forbids all joys, all hopes, all mirth
And turns her hate upon mankind
Whose hubris is so unconfined.

Our leaders fiddle while the planet burns
None know sense, no one learns
The lesson that delay and fudge
Will feed Earth's righteous, angry grudge.

In Bali, seeds of compromise
Spawn forests to hide from watching eyes
The interests of the filthy rich
And the dying poor in a dirty ditch.

So let us build a great bonefire
And in it throw with all our ire
The bones of those who led us here
To the very edge of our nadir.

Kill them! Burn them! Roast their bones
Ignore their cries! Provoke their groans!
Bush, Fukuda, Harper and Blair
Go down, go down and meet despair!

Build the greatest bonfire ever seen,
Upon it pile all that's green
With all the forests of the world
Then at last will you be hurled.

For humanity now it's all too late?
We only curse and cry with hopeless hate.
Burn! Burn! In your man made hell,
Or think, "grandchildren!" and break the spell!

Author's Notes:

*the origin of the word 'bonfire' is a Celtic festival fire upon which the bones of slaughtered animals were hurled to propitiate the gods.

Our path of destruction is wide and telling of a people who have little repsect for earth and all who inhabit her. We will reap what we have sown, and still not have an inkling that it is our own fault.

I've always said the earth will one day turn around and kick us all up the arse...maybe that time is getting closer, there isn't much left of this planet that doesn't have our taint on it. This is truely a brilliant write David, and if it's ok with you it is winging its way to my faves.

You tell 'em david!
Yes, we have raped the mother and sown a dreadful future for all...So sad to see so many who have no idea of responsibility of earth husbandry and keeping in trust precious things for our descendants
