Coming Together One Step at a Time

What will happen

if I step over the line

of racial divide

many whites say

doesn’t exit?

Ignorance widens the line.

What will happen

to my heart

that wants to try

to make up

for past wrongs

of my race?

Indifference widens the line.

Will I be battered and bruised

by harsh looks and firmly pursed lips

and eyes that doubt my motives?

Mistrust widens the line.

Will I be a punching bag

for understandable anger

that pushes me away and out ?

Unforgiveness widens the line.

Or will I be greeted by

fellow ambassadors

marching for the cause of reconciliation,

marching for the cause of true equality,

upon the street named Initiative

between the corners of Courage and Determination

in the land of justice for all.

Love erases the line.

wonderful insight in words.

I have come to realise that only some of us were born to be leaders. The majority want to play safe. Its like the domino effect..sadly....when the alpha female comes and sets the pace...many, many others come from their safe bolt holes and join in

Oh I detest the realsation but that is the way of things for sure.

I see a people brainwashed that a certain pool is not water but acid.....everybody is in fear of it.

Then some brave soul comes along and dives in head first.

Within minutes the pool is a frenetic mass of people having fun

THAT sadly is the way of things

Sadly, I think that racial divide is wider now than say thirty years ago.  It's not as voilent but the same attitude is there.  Your ending gives hope.

Be true to yourself. Many have overcome. I doubt you will be greeted as you you describe in the last stanza but your heart will definitely grow with love.

Worthy poem Cari!
