Father/Son -- Haiku Sequence
Talk with my father
To whom I have some doubts in
is so hard to do
is what is needed between
my father and me
My mind recalls the
past and all the flaws in him
so hard to forget
My heart recalls the
past and all the flaws in him
so hard to forgive
The present matters
but from what has happened I'm
not sure of what's seen
Talks behind my back
Not sure if truly trust him
not to betray me
It's been done before
I let my guard down to let
him truly see me
A child calling for help
While stuck in the body
of a confused man
Struck down out of fear
of what should have been known to
him deep in his heart
I'm not a fighter
nor would I raise my hand to
cause anyone harm
With a healer's soul
My very core is to try
to help heal others
Past pain tarnished my
ability in healing
the pain in others
Father does not care
to him it is 'laziness'
that I suffer from
not a two-way street for him
talk just only him
Listening is so hard
When my own voice is stifled
by constant lecture
If one wants to talk
Give the other a chance to
say what's on their mind
Put me on the spot
Forces my defense to rise
and not to listen
There can be no peace
If both sides are defensive
Life will be made hard
I need my father
but somehow it is too hard
to get through to him
He's a realist
With a son who's a dreamer
Can we get along
I really don't know
Facing so many problems
It is not certain

Wow, a revealing piece of work.  This is a struggle that many younger generations have with the older one.  You summerized it very well.

Oh yes!  This is great.  Reading this is almost like taking a page out of my life.  All the doubts and all the questions.  They consumed me for so long.  Then I learned about forgiveness and that we were each different people.  My mother always taught me to never turn away from family.  I cling close to her teachings - they are for my own good.  Time also seems to heal old wounds.  When I saw things were only going his way I asked The Lord help me.  I asked that the Lords goodness shine through me for my father to see and things changed for the better when I changed my point of view.  Sorry for the rant.  This was an awesome piece of work.

Thanks for sharing and wish you the very best,

Take care,

another very good form of writing...but this message contained within...sometimes it's impossible for a father and son to communicate...and other times it takes the son being the adult and making it happen. You're a strong man, Joe...much stronger than you see. THAT is the healer inside you...and you always reach out to help those around you...I'm living proof of that.

Hugs to  you, my friend...
