For Emma

For Emma

To be raised on broken promises
Had the key at nine years old
Found the street to be more inviting
Than the comfort of your home.

Each day your life ebbs by degree
In the pursuit of maternal arms
Though charming that it might seem
The night is full of harms.

This door is always open
To a soul that walks alone
The streetlights that will guide you
To a place you can call home.
Author's Notes:
This is written for a friend of my daughters. She comes round and is so polite. she eats me out of house and home and spends most of her life on the street. She has shit parents but still loves them. This is for her.

Stirring! I've been the gatherer of stray kittens and puppies all of my life...I grew up and started taking in those (as you so wonderfuly stated) "in the pursuit of maternal arms". I know the experience helped me as much as it helped them. This one touched a very special part of me. Thank you for sharing John.

John,
Very moving poem... One who is alone in this world reaches out to kindness and you have done that... Your a good man John...((

John this is a very touching write! A poem of courage and values. I was a  Child Protective Services Investigator for the county I live in upstate NY......the lowest form of human life is one who neglects or abuses a child.......I had all I could do to keep from giving them a little justice old school style. God Bless those childeren!

Oh John this shows your caring heart. All this girl wants is to feel she belongs and is so loved in the right way. I am pleased she has you to guide and support her. Hoping she comes to stay with you and gets off the streets no life for anyone.

A wonderful poem

Love Angelxx
