The Other Side Of Euphoria
Here i am
the only sign of life on empty streets
as the rest of the world falls asleep.
Here i am
in a time of need
and desperately close is nothing to me...
See, i don't want to just exist...
i clench my fist and think of tomorrow
and the opportunities i've missed
while in the haunting shadow of sorrow...
And in the shadows gloom seems to grow...
It's hard to see in the harsh light.
Time seems to be travelling so slow
and i'm caught in a continuous fight...
I had all the answers
but no one seemed to want to know.
So i throw the ignorance
to fall where it may,
and i go on praying for change in another day...
And i consider tomorrow...
Racing against time...
In the sunshine... although it doesn't matter...
Somehow it all seems tasteless.
Years, Fears, blood, sweat, and tears... They've been wasted,
but dwelling on the memories is pointless...
My tired mind is overwhelmed with mediocrity
and antipathy has all but gone.
Shallow people swallow the lies of a sick society
and go on going on...
And Here i am
the only sign of life on empty streets
as the rest of the world falls asleep.
Here i am
in a time of need
and desperately close is nowhere to me...
See, i don't want to just exist...
i clench my fist and think of tomorrow
and the opportunities i've missed
while in the daunting clutches of sorrow...
Here i am...
On the other side of euphoria...
And my will is not the same...
It's been left broken
where the scattered remains of conscience were battered by blame.

A lot of power in these words, Antony.. I liked this so much I went back for a second read. I hardly ever do that. Desperate hours come to us all, sooner or later...len

In life we are young when we start out and very vunerable and so trusting it's not until the truth kicks you in the teeth and you fall in shock... we all make mistakes  such is life!! I think we learn what we don't want in life and hope we learn there are more that tears and grief .. To have a future you have to let go of the past... Wonderful poem and so heartfelt for me as I know of all the doubts and the stubborn pride to say I am sorry and learning to trust again is not easy... Once again a poem from your heart...
Thank you for sharing I can relate so well..

Although this is peppered with regret and sadness it is a very real depiction of how it feels to have these destructive emotions. Are we not told to be positive and not dwell on the past? Oh and if we do then there is something wrong with us...a serious character flaw. Some suggest our past is irrelevant but I beg to differ, I think it is what shaped us to be who we are today. To dismiss it is like denying oneself and our life, however mad or sane it was. And what of conscience? Hell, we all have one and it serves us well...we feel like crap when we've failed another person or ourself, I don't think it is healthy to just dismiss those feelings. Blame is crushing no matter what end of the stick you are on. So my response to this is to validate all of these feelings, give them their due. They are learning tools.

A broken will isn't easily repaired but the first step is to realize it is in need of repair. This poem felt like a cleansing to me and I appreciate the honesty within...because life isn't always pretty and our minds are not always positive.

Very good penning Antony...I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to read this. I can relate.
