All I Ever Wanted
Ask a girl of three
When grown, what will she be.
Her eyes will sparkle when she says,
"A beautiful fairy princess."
But, if you had asked me
When I was only three,
You'd have heard instead,
"I'm going to marry Fred."
Ask a girl of eight,
What will be her fate.
She'll tell you, face aglow,
A ballerina or an actress in a show.
But, if you had asked me
At eight, I'd have said with glee,
"I want a Saint Bernard
And to marry Tommy Ford."
Ask a girl of thirteen,
If her future she has seen.
She'll give a thoughtful look
And say "I'll be an author of a book".
But, if you had asked me,
It would have been a mom of three,
Living in a house with picket fence,
Married to a boy named Spence.
Ask a woman, grown
If her life she does now own.
She'll tell you what she's worth;
About her career, husband and births.
But, if you should ask me,
I will say I hit the lottery.
I married Bruce Gregory
And between us we have three.
Author's Notes:
Somewhat autobiographical.
I never really saw myself as anything but a wife and mother.
Kind of pathetic that I never had goals
but I have a wonderful family that I love dearly.
So, I am blessed in that respect.
