Boxhill sunset

To stand in the circle of the sun

As her red embers ride on the sky

On the hill as she fades away

I stand and watch the sky

Redness of the fiery bright

Turns the blue to flames of colour

While my eyes see the beauty

Of the sunset in the Surrey sky

Over Box hill she slides away

Leaving behind the warmth of her face

The gentle coolness of the evening

Settles down to cover her trace

The fiery amber sighs away

The blueness returns once more

Then the velvet of the knighting

Covers the sky with gentle night

Goodbye for now my old friend

Until the morning of your life

In the dawning of your glory

My gaze will enter your eternal face

In the brightness of our life

The sun is born again

Colin Skilton

Author's Notes:
I was telling Jan (Ian Jan) about the area i live in. I am lucky to be in Surrey England  a beautiful green county for the most part and some lovely natural places to see. Boxhill is one such place and people come for miles to visit with a view across the county and on a clear day you can see the sea and these days a very busy Gatwick Airport!!
I now live in Redhill but Boxhill still holds a special place for me.
I hope you enjoy the poem and i hope you can visit Boxhill one day for yourself.

The fiery amber sighs away

The blueness returns once more

What a glorious picture you paint Colin. This write is just exquisite and shall go to my favorite list. You should submit this for a featured award in my humble opinion.
