Tribute To The Troops

A fictional piece written from the viewpoint of the other side of the war.

A wife who lost her husband and blames our soliders for it.

Do you ever wonder if this is might be how the people on the other side really feel?

Just a thought.

There must now be something said for all of your foe's murdered soliders
Raise up your fists in victory, sweet victory, Americans everywhere for you have done it!
In an instant of wartime mayham you have torn apart families and friends forever more
Betcha you're proud of yourselfs ain't ya?
Undermining and ruining the lives of your fellow man without even a thought
Take 'em, punch a hole in 'em and move on to the next
Eager for that paycheck from good ole Uncle Sam who are you to do care what you've done?

Try to tell yourselfs that you're only doing what you must to protect your homeland, but you know that isn't true
Oh Lord bless you and have mercy on you, if you don't

The rest of us whose loved ones you have taken sure won't
Hell you brought to our doors and now we're praying everyday for someway to make you pay
Empty inside, so very empty we have been left

Tell me, do any of you ever feel this way or do the millions of murders you have committed mean nothing?
Rich old men start these wars
Oh how different it would all be if only you young men would stand up to them
Oh how many lives would be saved if only your youth would not be afraid to speak up
Pathetic, just pathetic how all of you hide behind the excuses of your uniforms
Solider boyz, silly little solider boyz don't you know

Of your part in this war between our nations
You should all be so very, so very, very ashamed

I know I am

I am not American and my countries do not have people on the front line anywhere, so I probably have no right to say anything. But…all I can say, living in South Africa, is that war, on any scale, anywhere, in any way, big or small, against another country or within your own country, is destructive to all parties. Nobody really wins, people die and all the parties see themselves as the righteous once. As the saying goes, all is fair in love and war… It is not pretty or politically correct, but it seems to be true and very sad.

Ramona, I fully support your right to write your thoughts,
real or fictional, in any fashion you please but I could not
sleep tonight if I did not tell you that this one broke my heart.
My first marriage was to a military man and we have lost close
friends and family to war. I understand that you are trying to
convey that war is hell on both sides of any war.  I really don't
think you would intentionally offend anyone and I hope you
aren't offended by this comment but I just had to make it.
Our troops and the families of our troops (I believe) will be
hurt by your words. I am sorry, but I can't agree with you here.

I read this earlier and became too mad to comment.....but I came back to leave a comment now because this piece was and still is difficult to read....

I am an army veteran, having been to the frontlines as a combat medic in Iraq over the past 4-5 years.

I don't know how you can actually blame the troops for the wars going on right now....It's not OUR fault that we have to go to war....we didn't wake up and say to ourselves oh lets all go to another country and start blowing up people and least I didn't. I don't know any soldier who actually wants to go fight and die....or ruin another person's life....

Yeah, I may have had to hold the gun and look down the barrel and pull the trigger and kill another was either them or me....

I do regret it and live with the choices everyday....war changes soldiers....

I've held 39 different soldiers as they died in my arms...I've watched as many others died because I couldnt get to them in time to help save best friend while I was in the army, was decapitaded during a mission that we volunteered for...her head landed in my lap.....

I may be back home from war...but everyday is war to me just to get through each day....

Though I may not know you, I stood ready, willing, when I was called up to defend my country and I would do it again if I was able....

just so you can continue to have your right and freedom of speech and be able to put what my fellow commrades and I do down and blame us....

It's not our fault for the wars....we just do what we enlisted for....

it doesnt make us evil or uncaring....or unthoughtful....

maybe I took to much into this poem....but as a soldier, I know I think about the other side of war...not just myself...but if it comes down to me or the enemy, I'm going to pull that trigger....

u kno what if u agree with them that alright but y r they whining?!?!?!?!?! they brought it to us first...not the other way around. yeah their soldiers may be dying, but they started it by killing thousands of our innocents. i think it is disrespectful of our country to post that as i have close friends that have served or are serving in the military
